On March 14, the first discussions of the coordination platform on the development of communities in Armenia launched at Ani Plaza Hotel in Yerevan. Representatives of the government agencies, international organizations, heads of communities and project experts took part in the meeting. Stanislav Toshkov, International Aid/ Cooperation Officer at the EU Delegation to Armenia, welcomed the guests and emphasized the importance of such programs in promoting the development of the country, and the communities in particular. Stanislav Toskkov noticed that the “Covenant of Mayors” has stronger basis in Armenia, than in other EU countries. The role of the European Union is to contribute to the development of renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors in the country.
Issues related to Armenia's commitment to climate change mitigation and adaptation measures, outcomes of surveys on coordination platform actions and procedures, the community sustainable energy development perspectives, investment opportunities for community energy efficiency improvement projects, as well as efficient use of renewable resources were discussed during the meeting.
It should be noted, that the European Neighborhood Policy Coordinator in Armenia is the Ministry of Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources of Armenia.
