Conference on “Unlocking energy efficiency potential in Armenia” 08.11.2017

EU4Energy and International Energy Charter had organized Energy high-level conference on unlocking energy efficiency potential in the residential and public buildings in Armenia.

The goal of the conference was to discuss energy efficiency and renewable energy related issues in Armenia with donors, international financial institutions, public and private sector representatives, as well as NGOs and experts.

Deputy Minister of Energy, Infrastructure and Natural Resources of Armenia Hayk Harutyunyan introduced the actions of the Government undertaken in energy efficiency sector, including improvement of legislative reforms and implementation of EE projects in public and residential buildings. The deputy minister also stated that more than 200 million euro is available in banks for the implementation of energy saving measures around the country. According to him, the demand for ESMs grows with geometric progression principle.

The representative of European Commission Lawrence Meredith highly assessed improvements made in energy sector of Armenia, and stated that cooperation in energy sector and efforts taken towards attracting investments is a very vital goal.

Issues   related to neutralization of investment risks in buildings, challenges and opportunities, green economy financing programs, EE crediting risks for housing, energy efficiency projects for communities were discussed during the roundtable.

The Director of Armenia Renewable Resources and Energy Efficiency Fund Armen Melkikyan spoke about the risks hindering energy efficiency and sustainable energy financing, presented  Energy Efficiency Projects for the communities aimed at increasing energy efficiency level in the communities of Armenia, actions of the Fund carried out  in energy efficiency sector and projects to be implemented in non-gasificated communities of the country.

The Head of the engineering- technical group of the R2E2 Fund Hrant Ter-Gabrielyan, spoke about the energy saving measures implemented in public facilities, presented the obstacles and prospects and deliverables.
